Caracol Televisión achievements

  • For the seventh consecutive year, it continued to be the television channel most watched by Colombians, with excellent results in prime programming.
  • The 20 most watched programs on television in Colombia in 2018 were productions of Caracol Televisión.
  • The series The Flow Queen was the most watched program with a share of 48.1% and an average rating of 16.7%.
  • The Caracol Newscast which is broadcast from Monday to Friday at 6:00 a.m. continues to be the most viewed news program in its strip.
  • The synergies between the various Caracol Televisión media were strengthened.
  • The agreements with Netflix were renewed.

To consolidate the Corporate Responsibility Model and strengthen the alignment of Caracol Televisión’s management with the Model.

Achievements

  • The materiality analysis was updated.
  • A revision and benchmark of the media companies that are part of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index was carried out.
  • Action plans were developed to address the improvement opportunities identified as a result of the self-assessment of RobecoSam’s Corporate Sustainability Assesstment (Dow Jones Sustainability Index) and the review of good practices.
  • An analysis was made of the battery of indicators that measure the different aspects of the Model, especially for the contents issue.
  • The framework for the creation, production and diffusion of responsible and quality contents was completed. For this, meetings were held with the vice-presidents that have influence on the contents of the media (television, radio, digital) in order to review said framework and subsequently validate it, disseminate it with their work groups and begin the empowerment process thereof.

  • The internal policies and the Ethics Code were circulated and socialized with employees.

  • The Comprehensive Risk Management System for Caracol Televisión was consolidated, with the Risk Management Policy and the reinforcement of the components of the internal control system.

Achievements

  • The Comprehensive Risk Matrix was developed including the identification of issues related to HHRR (Human Rights). All the vice presidencies of the core processes participated in this exercise to accomplish a first matrix with responsible managers. This process included:
    • Definition of core processes, management processes and support processes for the different vice presidencies of the company.
    • Identification of leading risk managers and / or risk managers.
    • Enumeration of risks, risk profile and treatment thereof.
    • Definition of controls for risks.
    • Risk monitoring (validate execution and effectiveness of controls).
    • Treatment of events (notification of the materialization of a risk).

  • To implement e-learning systems to strengthen the diffusion and empowerment of employees in relation to the ethical issues of the company.
  • To socialize the Ethics Code with suppliers and advertisers.
  • To include the human rights perspective in the risk analysis and use the material matters identified within the framework of the Corporate Responsibility Mode as input for said analysis.

  • The program “Well-being for employees” was strengthened, which promotes a respectful ambience, recognition and welfare to attract, retain and motivate the best talent.
  • Monthly activities were carried out to minimize the risks and impacts related to the health and safety of employees, which exceeded expectations and allowed progress in the implementation of the “Healthy lifestyles” program.
  • Within the framework of COPASST, Caracol Televisión voluntarily carried out training and activities such as previous exams for those who perform external recordings in order to know if they can attend them with the pertinent recommendations and handing of special provisions, programs to prevent social psychological risk, campaigns to quit 100% tobacco, visits to workstations.

The “Caracol Televisión Culture Week” was held with recreational and training activities, in which the dimensions of the communication media business were explained in depth.

Achievements

  • The inclusion of topics and activities related to innovation, television, digital, radio and SOY (Personal experiences).
  • The employees participated in photography workshops, conferences, planting gardens, bicycle workshops, among others.

  • The process for identification and prioritization of the Sustainable Development Goals was initiated in order to advance initiatives focused on the creation of economic, social and environmental value.

The Caracol Titans program stands out, recognizing leaders who develop initiatives in their communities in the following topics:

  • Environmental sustainability.
  • Culture.
  • Education.
  • Technology and connectivity.
  • Health.

Achievements

  • On its fifth anniversary, the program recognized those people who, from anonymity, contribute significantly to the development of the country with activities or programs that positively, effectively and verifiably benefit individuals, social groups and communities from different regions of the country. This is a public recognition from Caracol TV and the sponsoring firms to people who without any remuneration contribute their knowledge, effort and time.

In 2018 five (5) Titans were recognized out of the 2,245 who had been nominated in 2017. Their programs concentrated on:

  • Health brigades for vulnerable population in Palenquito, Bolívar.
  • Development of a bionic eye for research in ophthalmology programs at universities throughout the country.
  • Planting and recuperation of the Inírida flower as an employment opportunity for women heads of families from indigenous communities.
  • Training for young minors and their parents on the handling of personal information in social networks to avoid risks.
  • Musical education for youngsters with visual disability in the city of Cartagena.

  • The sixth version of the Caracol Televisión Environmental Protection Prize was held, rewarding the following organizations, for their commitment and management facing responsible care and use of or seas and rivers: Asoamaime in the community association category; Asociación Calidris in the NGO’s category; Progresar ESP in the small and medium-sized enterprises category and Isagen S.A. ESP in the large companies category.

  • The campaign “Change your footprint: separating waste” was implemented internally, whereby the characterization of waste was performed to define its adequate disposal and  separation at source.

Achievements

  • A quadrant methodology was implemented to determine the type of organic and usable waste generated at Floresta Headquarters.
  • A code was designed to improve recycling and the general services staff was trained.
  • Measures were drawn up to reduce the amount of material that goes to the sanitary landfill.
