  • El Espectador continues to be recognized for its independence, seriousness and transparency.
  • The process of optimizing the distribution network of print media in the 15 main cities of the country began, which generated savings in logistics and transportation.
  • It trained the equipment in topics related to new technologies such as: digital consumer, social media, big data, browser marketing, SEO, contents marketing, Ad On Line Native-Advertising, digital media sales, programmatic purchases and Analytics.

  • The collective direction of the organization to digital environment was implemented.

Achievements

  • A new digital business unit was created to prospect the company to generate new income.
  • This allowed El Espectador to be the first communication medium in Colombia to commercialize its contents through the implementation of digital subscriptions.
  • Likewise, a new video format `Audiovisual Commercial Communication – ACC´ was developed, for the promotion of third-party goods and services.
  • It has been successful in creating digital information and opinion channels such as La Pulla, Las Igualadas, En Contexto, Pelaos, La Rubia y La Morena, La Prohibida, Red Zoocial, among others.

  • The ethical line was implemented as a tool for the Compliance Officer to report unethical or illicit behavior.
  • The main sections of the anti-corruption policy were disseminated through the different internal communication channels.
  • The commitment of all officials to the anti-corruption policy was ratified.

  • To achieve that 100% of clients and suppliers are verified prior to their creation in the system.

Achievements

  • An optimal supplier was hired for the provision of the required information for the ML/TF assessment (including OFAC, Office of Foreign Assets Control).
  • The guidelines for risk evaluation and third parties’ verification for ML/TF Asset Laundering and Terrorism Financing (including OFAC) were implemented.
  • Prior verification of ML/TF for the creation of clients and suppliers in the information system.

  • Promotion of new business lines that have been profitable for the company generating a positive impact at the environmental and / or social level, such as Bibo, Profesión líder and Colombia 2020.

  • Relevant environmental and social campaigns were developed for the country with El Espectador as a great platform for diffusion and promotion.

Achievements

  • Financing of each one of the projects, with resources originating mainly from the German Government and the European Union for Colombia 2020 and from Isagén for Bibo. These initiatives generated revenues in the order of $5,008 million at the end of 2018.

The carbon footprint measurement was carried out for 2016 and 2017 with the following results:

El Espectador’s outstanding initiative

  • The recommendations for the measurement and reduction of the carbon footprint made by Green Sense, a company specialized in measurement and environmental education strategies to increase the value of brands, were materialized.

Achievements

  • The campaign was carried out on the efficient use of electricity, turning off lights and computers, sorting out waste and using ecologic means of transportation.
  • The plan to reconvert luminaires to LED was started (process is currently at 50%).
  • The renewal of computer equipment was implemented (phase two of three) which is expected to reduce energy consumption by 15% in 2019.
  • Complementarily, the policy for recycling computers was created through certified suppliers in the proper disposal of this equipment.
