  • It carried out its continuous update of the risk map with the accompaniment of the firm Deloitte, focusing efforts on the aspects of greater impact and vulnerability for the company.
  • It maintained the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certification, which it has had for more than nine years, ensuring compliance of principles and criteria for the responsible forestry management of operations.
  • It maintained a constant dialogue with stakeholders, including communities in the area of influence of the operating units to identify needs and contribute to their social and economic well-being.

  • The company’s operation is leveraged on constant innovation of processes and lines of product to expand its portfolio and ensure greater profitability.

Achievements

  • It invested in the construction of a Plywood board factory as part of the growth and development strategy of the wood business line, with which Refocosta can expand its portfolio in the market and ensure its profitability.
  • It initiated the investment process required for the entry into operation as of 2019 of the power generation plants located in Villanueva, Casanare and Puerto Carreño, Vichada.

  • The Performance Management and Development Center programs were executed through the Success Factors platform, augmenting the target population each year.
  • The success profiles were designed for the critical positions identified, defining their possible successors, within the framework of the Valorem Group succession project.

  • To promote the recruitment and training for the first job of young people in zones with little job offer.

Achievements

  • An apprenticeship assignment agreement was established with the National Learning Center SENA
  • 15 young people from SENA were hired from different training programs in the environmental and forestry operations

  • This investment strengthens the company’s vision of establishing itself in Colombia as a leader in educating society on consumption of wood and furniture originating only from reforested forests, generating natural value, preserving rich adjacent ecosystems and growing with the communities.

Refocosta’s outstanding initiative

  • Implementation of the Growth Protocol methodology for the evaluation of investment projects.

Achievements

  • Two projects reached the investment phase: REFOPANEL and ECO-ENERGIA.
    • Refocosta bought the company ECO-ENERGIA S.A.S, in charge of supplying electricity to the municipality of Puerto Carreño under the “take or pay” modality for a period of 20 years. It is projected that in a period of 2 years, energy from forest biomass for 4,5 MW can be delivered, constituting an important renewable energy project.
    • In its wood business line, it decided to invest in the construction of a Plywood board factory (REFOPANEL) in the municipality of Zambrano, Bolívar, an area affected by the armed conflict. This factory will bring significant economic development to the region, providing more than 70 jobs.

Refocosta achievements

  • Scopes 1 and 2 of the carbon footprint were measured, including the Services Division, which made it possible to have more accurate data on the organization’s Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions.
  • The first environmental evaluation of critical suppliers from the environmental perspective was carried out, specifically those of agricultural inputs, chemicals, tires and fuel.

Refocosta’s outstanding initiative

  • To obtain certification from Icontec for the Forest Compensation Program that includes the REFOCOSTA plantations in Villanueva and those of Xylom.

Achievements

  • Certification of carbon credits with 180 tons of CO2-e represented in 1,856 hectares of the Villanueva and Xylom plantations.
  • This certification allowed the Company to obtain income during 2018 amounting to $1,775 MM. The bonds are commercialized with companies seeking Forest Compensation projects to compensate for their GHG emissions.

Regarding carbon credits:

  • To continue with the certification in the Villanueva and Xylom plantations.
  • To obtain certification in plantations in La Gloria.
  • To maintain Refocosta in the carbon market.

Regarding the Waste Management Plan:

  • To implement crosswise in all the organization’s operations the Waste Management Plan and in this way, accomplish an adequate management and disposition thereof.
